HOUSTON, TX. -- March 23, 2015: True the Vote (TTV), the nation's leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today released the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to decline further hearing of the challenge to Wisconsin’s voter ID law:
“This is the day that millions of Wisconsin voters have been waiting for,” True the Vote Founder Catherine Engelbrecht said. “Today’s decision is by no means a partisan victory, as every citizen participating in the electoral process can know with confidence that only their ballot will be waiting when they go vote.”
In preparation for the likelihood of Wisconsin’s voter identification law being enforced, True the Vote began the process of developing a citizen-led auxiliary system to support state efforts which help voters obtain free identification. The Texas pilot program, ‘NEED ID’, offered voter registration and ID help desk programs prior to the 2014 General Election.
“True the Vote has been preparing for this day with local citizen leaders for months,” Engelbrecht continued. “Our task is not a difficult one -- engaged voters across the state stand ready to help their neighbors access free identification.
“Our movement was built on the idea that voters should engage and educate each other on how to best rebuild accountability into the voting process. Today’s news in Wisconsin marks a critical accomplishment in the national push for election integrity,” Engelbrecht concluded.
True the Vote (TTV) is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) voters’ rights organization, founded to inspire and equip voters for involvement at every stage of our electoral process. TTV empowers organizations and individuals across the nation to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.
