HOUSTON, TX. -- December 18, 2014: True the Vote (TTV), the nation's leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today released the following statement formally announcing its intent to appeal a recent dismissal of its lawsuit addressing the Internal Revenue Service targeting scandal:
“The IRS targeting scandal is not over and neither is our effort to seek justice in the federal courts," True the Vote Founder Catherine Engelbrecht said. "Since the dismissal, ‘lost’ emails specific to our case history have been found and assertions that the agency changed its ways have yet to prove true by any verifiable manner. Until the Court fully addresses the IRS’ wrongdoing, the risk of future political abuses without consequences will only compound.”
True the Vote filed a notice of appeal for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on December 18, 2014. Future briefing deadlines are expected to be set throughout spring of 2015. A copy of the notice has been made available for review here.
True the Vote originally filed a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service after waiting three (3) years for the agency to process its 501(c) application for tax-exempt status. D.C. District Judge Reggie B. Walton dismissed the case in November 2014.
True the Vote (TTV) is an IRS-designated 501(c)(3) voters’ rights organization, founded to inspire and equip voters for involvement at every stage of our electoral process. TTV empowers organizations and individuals across the nation to actively protect the rights of legitimate voters, regardless of their political party affiliation.
