HOUSTON, TX. -- April 1, 2015: True the Vote (TTV), the nation's leading voters’ rights and election integrity organization, today released the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Department of Justice’s decision to not seek criminal contempt charges for former IRS official Lois Lerner:
“The double standard is breathtaking,” True the Vote Founder Catherine Engelbrecht said. “Lois Lerner played the part of front line operative in a targeting scandal that reveled in ‘putting politics before a citizen’s constitutional rights.’ Time and again, Lerner abused the power of her IRS position to shut down organizations whose views she did not share. Her lawyer said she’s focused on returning to a normal life. How about those lives she worked to destroy?
“Lerner may have beaten the contempt of Congress issue, but True the Vote has no intention of backing off now. We can confirm that the FBI’s criminal investigation continues on through numerous Freedom of Information Act requests filed.
"Lerner will forever be remembered as the symbol of an Administration willing to betray the trust of the American people for the sake of its own political survival.”
