Thompson, Stanley Bowling, Charles Wayne Jones, William Stivers, William Bart Morris and Debra L. Morris) were convicted in 2010 in a massive vote-buying scheme that ran through several elections. After a seven-week trial, the defendants were convicted on various charges they faced, which included vote-buying, mail fraud, extortion and money laundering. Several convicted major drug dealers testified during the trial about how easy it was to spread many thousands of dollars around to buy votes. In 2010 sentenced to 20 years in prison. From a list of almost 200 voter fraud cases that occurred since June 2007, only one person was charged.
