Arkansas Scott Montgomery (sheriff and candidate) M 2008-05 Democratic Primary for Sheriff D Voter intimidation/coercion Sheriff Scott Montgomery faced allegations of political intimidation, including bribing people to change votes in a sheriff's race to receive favors and/or not receive punishment from law enforcement. Allegations regarded violations of the Political Practices Act related to the May 20, 2008 election for sheriff of Perry County. Washington Dennine Robertson F 1 Records received from Snohomish County Washington did not indicate the specific accusation. From a list of almost 200 voter fraud cases that occurred since June 2007, only one person was charged. West Virginia Ernest J. Stapleton (former commander of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post) M Ernest J. Stapleton was indicted with others for a conspiracy to control county government in Lincoln County by buying votes, keeping some supporters’ property taxes low, controlling county and state government jobs and rewarding supporters by ensuring their roads were repaired. Maryland Paul Schurick M 2010 R 2011 Voter intimidation/coercion 6 Campaign manager to incumbent Republican Maryland governor Robert Ehrlich, accused of approving a misleading robocall to suppress the African-American vote in in the 2010 election, which Ehrlich ultimately lost. Charged with 3 counts conspiracy to violate election laws, 1 count election fraud, 1 count authority line violation, and 1 count obstruction of justice. Mississippi Alethea Michelle Shaw F 2013-06 Hattiesburg Mayoral 2014-10 Ineligible district voting (+registration) 1 1 Three of seven defendants indicted on voter fraud connected to the 2013 Hattiesburg mayoral elections pleaded guilty last week to misdemeanor charges in 12th District Circuit Court. Alethea Michelle Shaw, 46, Carmon Yvette Anderson, 53, and Joseph Lee Anderson, 53, each pleaded* guilty to a charge of voting out of district of legal domicile. Shaw works as public defender for the City of Hattiesburg’s Municipal Court. Carmon Anderson works as human resources director for the Hattiesburg Public School District. Each defendant received a suspended sentence of six months, was fined $200 and ordered to pay $220.84 court costs. Shaw was cited for voting in the June 4, 2013, general election even though her legal residence was listed in Lamar County outside Hattiesburg city limits. The Andersons were cited for voting in the Sept. 24, 2013, mayoral special election even though their legal residence was listed in Moselle. The indictments were connected to alleged voting irregularities in the 2013 Hattiesburg mayoral race between incumbent Mayor Johnny DuPree and former Ward 4 City Councilman Dave Ware. After a year-long investigation, two Forrest County grand juries handed down seven misdemeanor indictments in October 2014.
