Morris M 2002 2004 2006 2010 2009-07 Vote buying Circuit Court Judge Cletus Maricle, and seven others (Douglas C. Adams, Freddy W. Thompson, Stanley Bowling, Charles Wayne Jones, William Stivers, William Bart Morris and Debra L. Morris) were convicted in 2010 in a massive vote-buying scheme that ran through several elections. After a seven-week trial, the defendants were convicted on various charges they faced, which included vote-buying, mail fraud, extortion and money laundering. Several convicted major drug dealers testified during the trial about how easy it was to spread many thousands of dollars around to buy votes. In 2010 sentenced to more than 26 years in prison. Appeal resulted in new trial being set and Maricle then pleaded guilty. Mississippi Jasper Buggs, Sr. M 2007 Democratic primary, Runoff Vote Buying 3 Jasper Buggs, Sr. was charged with 1 count of voter fraud and 2 counts of bribery in a vote buying scheme. Pleaded guilty to two counts and one was dismissed. (Case #BK2008-005, Circuit Court, Benton County) 5 years, with first year under house arrest and 4 years post-release supervision. Washington Dennine Robertson F 1 Records received from Snohomish County Washington did not indicate the specific accusation. From a list of almost 200 voter fraud cases that occurred since June 2007, only one person was charged. West Virginia Ernest J. Stapleton (former commander of a Veterans of Foreign Wars post) M Ernest J. Stapleton was indicted with others for a conspiracy to control county government in Lincoln County by buying votes, keeping some supporters’ property taxes low, controlling county and state government jobs and rewarding supporters by ensuring their roads were repaired. Surber M 2004-05 Municipal D 2006-03 Absentee/Mail Kevin Lee Sharrett was involved with a group of 14 individuals in Wise County charged with a total of 269 alleged violations of conspiracy, tampering with absentee ballots and forgery.
