Ohio Joseph Copija Deborah Ramirez Roderice Cortez Lacy Joseph Copija M 2009-04 Petition Fraud 6 Joseph Copija worked for a signature-gathering firm and faked signatures trying to get a measure on the ballot. Indicted by a grand jury in April 2009 on 3 counts of election falsification, 2 counts of complicity to election falsification and 1 count of complicity to prohibitions relating to petitions. After the indictment, he fled to California where he was later found and returned to Ohio to face the charges in December 2010. Pleaded guilty to 1 count election falsification and 1 count of complicity to election falsification. Other counts dropped. (Case #09-CR-00368, Lake County) 6 months in prison. Arkansas Scott Montgomery (sheriff and candidate) M 2008-05 Democratic Primary for Sheriff D Voter intimidation/coercion Sheriff Scott Montgomery faced allegations of political intimidation, including bribing people to change votes in a sheriff's race to receive favors and/or not receive punishment from law enforcement. Allegations regarded violations of the Political Practices Act related to the May 20, 2008 election for sheriff of Perry County. Illinois Rodney McCulloch M 2005 Republican primary R Petition fraud 7 0 Rodney McCullough was convicted of 3 counts of perjury and 1 count of disregarding the election code in a scheme that forged signatures to qualify Milton Township assesor James Gumm for the 2005 Republican primary ballot. New Jersey Joann Nibaldi F 2007 State General 2011 Absentee/Mail 1 Joann Nibaldi was accused of tampering with ballots used for the 2007 general election for state senate, in violation of absentee ballot laws. Charged with 1 count violation of absentee voting law, vote by mail-third degree. She waived her indictment and trial by jury and requested to be tried by the court. Illinois Jeannette Sims F 2008-11 2009-04 Registration Fraud Forgery Sims reportedly filed 10 fake voter registration cards before the November 2008 election. Sims was working with a voter registration drive sponsored by the Service Employees International Union. A handwriting expert examined the cards and determined that Sims filled out all 10 cards with fake addresses. Many of the registration cards were submitted with addresses that do not exist, while others bore the names of people who did not live at the addresses listed on the cards. Texas Elizabeth Robledo Morales Jose Picasso F 2010-05 Alton municipal 2013-01 Ineligible district voting Registration fraud 1 1 Elizabeth Robledo Morales and Magdalena Robledo Rodriguez were charged with illegal voting for their roles in a voter fraud scheme during Alton’s May 2010 city election. Both women were named in a December 2012 indictment accusing them of having voted in the 2010 Alton election even though they were not eligible to vote in it. In 2010, a controversy sparked in the small Hidalgo County town when nearly three dozen voters were flagged by the city, which had chosen to run its own election.
