North Carolina Verna Roehm F 2012-11 General R Absentee/mail Impersonation - deceased 1 1 A North Carolina widow, 75-year-old Verna Roehm, was charged with felony voting fraud after she voted on behalf of her dead husband in the 2012 presidential election. The illegal absentee mail ballot was discovered during a regular audit by Union County election officials in 2014. When confronted about the vote, Roehm said it was her husband's last dying wish to vote on the Republican ticket, but he died a few months before he was able. She pleaded* guilty to a charge of misdemeanor voter fraud, downgraded from a felony followed a judge accepting a prayer for judgment due to the unusual circumstances, which means that while she's been found guilty, she won't have to face jail time. *Plea deal: No jail time, for 1 misdemeanor count of voter fraud (downgraded from a felony) http://www.wsoctv.com/news/news/local/woman-charged-fulfilling-husbands-dying-wi...
