Tennessee Vancey Voorhies F Illegal assistance 4 Vancey Voorhies was charged with one count each of illegal registration/voting, false entries, violation by an official and official misconduct. She was a volunteer poll worker who helped an elderly cousin vote by signing her name in the book and casting the vote for her. It was determined that her actions were a misguided effort to assist a voter and she was eligible for pre-trial diversion. Mississippi Vaughn Gray Jr. 2013 Hattiesburg mayoral 2014-12 Ineligible felon voting 1 1 Vaughn Gray, Jr. was charged with voting by an unqualified person for illegally voting in the 2013 Hattiesburg mayoral election. Gray was convicted of grand larceny prior to casting his ballot in 2013, which disenfranchised his vote due to the felony charge. Florida Velrine Palmer F Non-citizen voting Velrine Palmer was one of 15 non citizens charged with voting in various elections. Four of the defendants were also charged with making false claims of citizenship. Ten defendants were convicted, one was acquitted and charges against the remaining four defendants were dismissed. Alabama Venustiano Hernandez-Hernandez M Multiple Non-citizen voting Registration fraud 5 Venustiano Hernandez-Hernandez, a Mexican citizen living illegally in Alabama since the 1970s under a stolen identity, pleaded guilty in 2012 to federal Social Security fraud charges, and records show he committed voter fraud as well. Hernandez-Hernandez stole the Social Security number and assumed the name of Severo Benavidez, under which he illegally voted in the 1996 and 2008 general elections, the 2002 primary election, and special elections in 2003 and 2009. http://blog.al.com/live/2012/03/baldwin_man_convicted_of_fraud.html
North Carolina Verna Roehm F 2012-11 General R Absentee/mail Impersonation - deceased 1 1 A North Carolina widow, 75-year-old Verna Roehm, was charged with felony voting fraud after she voted on behalf of her dead husband in the 2012 presidential election. The illegal absentee mail ballot was discovered during a regular audit by Union County election officials in 2014. When confronted about the vote, Roehm said it was her husband's last dying wish to vote on the Republican ticket, but he died a few months before he was able. Texas Veronica Saldivar Belinda Solis F 2012-05 Democratic primary General Donna ISD D 2014-08 Vote buying (federal) 1 29 Veronica Saldivar and Belinda Solis pleaded* guilty in federal court to buying votes during the May 2012 Democratic primary and the 2012 general election. A campaign manager for a Hidalgo County Commissioner bought cocaine and gave it to the two women so they could use it to entice voters. Saldivar pleaded guilty to one count of vote-buying after she admitted to buying 17 to 29 votes with cash, cocaine, beer, and cigarettes. Both women were part of a large year and a half long FBI investigation into election corruption in Hidalgo County that began in January 2013. The women were paid campaign workers, also known as politiqueras, who targeted low income areas and elderly individuals enticing them to vote for a particular candidate.
