Kentucky Willard Smith "Donnie Newsome (Knott County Judge-Executive)" M 1998-05 Primary D 2003-04 Vote buying Knott County Judge-Executive Donnie Newsome was convicted of leading a conspiracy to buy votes in the May 26, 1998 Knott County primary election. Kentucky William Bart Morris Cletus Maricle Douglas C. Adams Freddy W. Thompson Stanley Bowling Charles Wayne Jones William Stivers Debra L. Morris M 2002 2004 2006 2009-07 Vote Buying Circuit Court Judge Cletus Maricle, and seven others (Douglas C. Adams, Freddy W. Thompson, Stanley Bowling, Charles Wayne Jones, William Stivers, William Bart Morris and Debra L. Morris) were convicted in 2010 in a massive vote-buying scheme that ran through several elections. After a seven-week trial, the defendants were convicted on various charges they faced, which included vote-buying, mail fraud, extortion and money laundering. Several convicted major drug dealers testified during the trial about how easy it was to spread many thousands of dollars around to buy votes. Plea Deal: In 2010 sentenced to 20 years in prison. Texas William Berntsen (former candidate for RUD board) M 2010-05 Woodlands Road Utility District 2012-03 Ineligible district voting Registration Fraud William Berntsen was one of seven voters indicted for voting outside their district. The group planned to vote in a district where they did not reside in order to elect three of their members to the board of directors of The Woodlands Road Utility District. The group illegally registered in the district by using the address of a hotel in the district as their home address of their voter registration application. Illinois William Brown Kevin Wiggins Kyle R. Johnson Trevon L. Tompkin M 2009-04 Cahokia Village municipal 2009-09 Absentee/Mail Illegal assistance 41 22 William Brown pleaded* guilty to 22 charges relating to mail ballot fraud in the 2009 Cahokia Village election; 19 other charges were dismissed. Kevin Wiggins and Cahokia village Trustees Kyle Johnson and Trevon Tompkin also pleaded guilty in the scheme to file falsified applications for absentee ballots then illegally vote them.
