Texas Guadalupe "Lupe" Rivera Sr. Lupe Rivera Jr. Graciela Sanchez M 2013-11 Weslaco municipal D 2015-10 Absentee/mail Ineligible district voting Illegal assistance 16 16 Weslaco City Commissioner Guadalupe "Lupe" Rivera was charged with 16 counts of misdemeanor voter fraud related to the November 2013 race for City Commission District 5. Rivera pleaded* guilty to one count of unlawful assistance to a voter, a Class A misdemeanor. In exchange for the plea, the other 15 charges were dropped: six counts of method of returning marked ballot (fewer than 10 ballots), a Class B misdemeanor; six counts of carrier envelope action by person other than voter, a Class B misdemeanor; and three counts of assisting voter violation, a Class A misdemeanor. Rivera was re-elected in 2013 by just 16 votes over challenger Leticia "Letty" Lopez, who contested the election alleging voter fraud. Questionable voter registrations - including 23 people who listed the same single-family on registration forms - and allegations about mail-in ballots emerged at trial. A judge ordered a new election, which Lopez won in 2015. Texas Unknown impersonator 2016-05 Hidalgo municipal Absentee/Mail Impersonation 1 When Sylvia Rodriguez went to the polls to vote in May 2016, election workers told her she'd already voted by mail. Rodriguez said she never sent a mail-in ballot and went to the Hidalgo County Elections Department to nullify it. Rodriguez said a woman came to her house and asked for her mail-in ballot. "She circled the names of the people with the group she was supporting. She told me 'you're going to vote for these three people,'" Rodriguez said.
