Illinois Armando Ramos Anish Eapen M 2007-02 2007-04 General, Runoff Absentee/mail Voter intimidation/coercion Illegal assistance 20 20 Armando Ramos and Anish Eapen, who campaigned for Alderman Bernard Stone in 2007, were sentenced to jail time for attempted voter fraud. Ramos was found to have assisted Eapen’s unlawful efforts to mislead voters and was convicted of 20 counts of vote fraud, including attempted absentee ballot fraud, and attempted mutilation of election materials. Prosecutors charged the men with approaching residents in the ward and offering to help them cast absentee ballots, in some cases even filling out the ballots. Alabama Lesa Coleman Olivia Reynolds Janice Hart Daniel Reynolds F 2013 Dothan municipal D 2014-05 Absentee/Mail Conspiracy 20 7 Lesa Coleman was convicted of seven felony counts of absentee ballot fraud. Coleman illegally obtained absentee voter ballots during the 2013 Dothan city commission election on behalf of District 2 Commissioner Amos Newsome. Newsome won the race by just 14 votes. Colorado Kimberly Michelle Cason F 2004 D 2004 Forgery Perjury Registration Fraud 21 Kimberly Michelle Cason was accused of being part of the ACORN registration scandal. Cason was paid by the hour to register people to vote. By falsifying registration forms, members of ACORN could allegedly bill for hours that were not worked. Cason admitted to forging signatures for her friends to vote 40 times. She was charged with 15 counts forgery, 5 counts of procuring false registration and 1 count perjury. 19 counts were dismissed. Michigan Salim Ahmed Armani Asad, Mohammed Russell M 2013-08 Hamtramck municipal primary 2013-09 Absentee/Mail 21 21 Salim Ahmed, Armani Asad, and Mohammed Russell were charged with a total of 41 counts of felony voter fraud for illegally possessing and returning 48 absentee ballots during Hamtramck's August 2013 primary election. It is a felony to possess or return absentee ballots unless you are the person voting, the voter's family member, a mail carrier, or an authorized official. Ohio Antonio Alvande M 2008-11 Registration Fraud Absentee Ballot Fraud 24 Antonio Alvande was accused of falsifying numerous registrations for himself and others using an address from Boxmaster, a business in a strip mall in Columbus, Ohio. Similarity of signatures led to an investigation. Alvande was later found incompetent to stand trial. He was charged with 14 counts false registration and 10 counts absent voter's ballot. Florida Anthony Grant Antionette Nowells James Randolph M 2015-03 Eatonville municipal D 2016-03 Absentee/mail Voter intimidation/coercion Vote buying 25 Eatonville Mayor Anthony Grant, Mia Antionette Nowells, and James Randolph were indicted on 25 felony voter fraud charges for coercing voters and submitting illegally obtained absentee ballots in the March 2015 mayoral election in which Grant was elected. Following the indictments, the governor suspended Mayor Grant. A grand jury found that Grant, Nowells and Randolph solicited an absentee ballot from someone who didn't live in Eatonville, marked ballots for voters, and forced people to register to vote. The charges followed a Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigation and a lawsuit filed by his opponent seeking a new election that also alleged Grant offered bribes and told people he would lower their rents in exchange for their vote. Florida Betty Jefferson (wife of candidate Eugene Jefferson) Linda Ivery F 2010-10 Lake City municipal D 2013-04 Absentee/Mail Registration Fraud Voter intimidation/coercion 26 20 Betty Jefferson was charged with 24 felony and two misdemeanor election law violations in a scheme to elect her husband, Eugene, to a city council seat in the 2010 Lake City District 10 primary. Jefferson asked voters to sign absentee ballots that were already completed, fraudulently obtained absentee ballots, and tried to deceive voters into signing ballots. The charges included 19 counts of obtaining an absentee ballot in violation of the law, one count of corruptly influencing voting, three counts of submitting false voter registration, one count of procuring false voter registrations, conspiracy to falsely obtain an absentee ballot or falsely obtaining an absentee ballot, and a conspiracy to corruptly influence voting charge. Jefferson entered pre-trial intervention. Alabama Olivia Reynolds Lesa Coleman Janice Hart Daniel Reynolds F 2013 Dothan municipal D 2014-05 Absentee/Mail Conspiracy 26 24 Olivia Reynolds was convicted of 24 counts of fraudulently obtaining absentee ballots during the 2013 Dothan city commission election on behalf of District 2 Commissioner Amos Newsome, her boyfriend. Newsome won the race by just 14 votes.
