|Mississippi||Margie McNair||Ann Reed Margie McNair Dona Jones Prentiss Harris Gloria Smith||F||2015-11||State General||2015-11||Illegal assistance||In February 2016, the Mississippi Attorney General's Office took over the prosecution in a voting fraud case filed against five Franklin County pollworkers charged with election fraud during the Nov. 3, 2015 general election at the Bude precinct. Circuit Judge Forrest “Al” Johnson issued the warrants for their arrests. Margie McNair of Bude, Ann Reed of Meadville, and Dona Jones of Meadville were charged with violating a state elections law forbidding “dishonest decisions by managers” of polling places “concerning qualifications of voters.” The women allegedly did not check voter qualifications. State law says if an election manager knowingly permits an unqualified person to vote or prohibits a qualified person from voting, the manager may face jail time of up to three months, a fine of up to $200 or both. Anita Leonard and Carl Cupit, both Republican Party poll observers at the Bude precinct, filed the charges on Nov. 13. Leonard said she saw pollworkers going beyond what is allowed in helping voters and alleged that the pollworkers weren’t properly checking voters’ identification. Sen. Melanie Sojourner, R-Natchez, contested her close loss to former Sen. Bob Dearing in the Senate District 37 race. Dearing, a Democrat, won the seat back from Sojourner by a 62-vote margin.||Charges dismissed||https://mississippipep.wordpress.com/2015/11/23/franklin-county-poll-workers-arr...||http://www.dailyjournal.net/view/story/b113715bcd3745eca3352936439d5364/MS--Vote...||http://www.dailyjournal.net/view/story/24b8c1cc5dbd4ba38d83910a01f74b81/MS--Elec...|
