|Texas||Rosa Maria Ortega||F||Multiple||R||2015-10||Non-citizen voting||In person||2||5||Rosa Maria Ortega, a non-citizen legally residing in Tarrant County, Texas, was charged with two felony counts of illegal voting. Ortega was charged for voting in person during the November 2012 general election and in the May 2014 primary runoff election in Dallas County. Ortega applied to vote in Tarrant County and acknowledged on the application form that she was not a citizen. The county rejected her application and notified her she was not qualified to vote. Five months later, she applied again and claimed she was a citizen. Ortega never did vote in Tarrant County, but investigators learned she had voted in Dallas County. Dallas County Elections Administrator Toni Pippins-Poole said records showed that Ortega had voted a total of five times. The first was in the Republican primary in 2004 and the most recent was the Republican primary runoff in May 2014. A jury found Ortega guilty of voting while not being a citizen and she was sentenced to eight years in prison.||8 years in prison||https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/news/releases/texas-ags-office-and-tarrant-...||http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Woman-Jailed-on-Charge-of-Illegal-Voting-342158...||http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2017/02/09/grand-prairie-woman-sentenced-to-8-years-in-p...|
