CBS4 discovered the fraudulent voting by comparing databases of voting histories in Colorado against a federal death database. A review of the findings by the Secretary of State’s office confirmed at least 78 dead voters remained eligible to vote. Sara Sosa of Colorado Springs died on Oct. 14, 2009, but voting records show ballots cast for Sosa in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. Her husband, Miguel, died on Sept. 26, 2008, but records show a vote was cast in his name in 2009. Nell "Ma" Cluck died Feb. 1, 2009, but a vote was cast in her name in Nov. 2009. Four of the defendants were also charged with making false claims of citizenship. Ten defendants were convicted, one was acquitted and charges against the remaining four defendants were dismissed. The registrations occurred in 2007 and 2008. The six were each indicted on a felony count of election fraud: Mark Winfield Atwater of Portsmouth; James Edward Dorsey of Portsmouth; Brenda Lee Harris of Virginia Beach; Tyrone Stith of Chesapeake; Lisa Charlotte White of Portsmouth; and Delphine Williams of Portsmouth.
