Using Election Day Registration, Kaarbo voted at a polling place in Skelton Township, at which time she completed a voter registration application and signed a certification saying she was eligible to vote. when in fact her voting rights had not been restored. Carlton County Auditor/Treasurer Paul Gassert said that because the voter's ineligiblity was discovered after the fact, there was no way to prevent the fraudulent vote from counting. Cason admitted to forging signatures for her friends to vote 40 times. She was charged with 15 counts forgery, 5 counts of procuring false registration and 1 count perjury. 19 counts were dismissed. Colón, a Voces De La Frontera volunteer, was also charged with illegally registering to vote and casting an absentee ballot in Milwaukee in 2008, listing an address in the city when she in fact resided in Oshkosh at the time. Prosecutors agreed to drop two charges, and Colón pleaded no contest to two others.
