A plea* deal sought to reduce those charges in exchange for his cooperation. Brown, with his attorney Jennifer C. Zegarelli, pled to felony possession of a forged instrument --the absentee ballot for David Daniel. When the investigation into the Democrats' activities started to heat up, Brown concocted a scheme in which he tried to convince WFP members to put out a press release blaming the entire scandal on former city DPW Commissioner Bob Mirch, a Republican. He was one of eight people to face charges in connection with the probe. Galuski was arraigned in Rensselaer County Court by Greene County Court Judge George J. New York Clement Campana Anthony DiFiglio William McInerney Anthony Renna John Brown Clement Campana Gary Galuski Michael LoPorto Ed McDonough Kevin McGrath M 2009-09 Working Families Party Primary D Absentee/mail Clement Campana, Troy City Council President, was indicted on five felonies and one misdemeanor for his allegedly defrauding voters during the 2009 Working Families Party primary. Campana was charged with four felony counts of illegal voting, one felony count of falsifying business records in the first degree as well as one count of conspiracy to promote or prevent election, a misdemeanor. He pled* not guilty to all charges in front of Judge George Pulver. The indictment states that Campana worked with other Democrats to conspire to help candidates win the primary. Many of the allegations involve talking voters into accepting and signing absentee ballot applications, and then filling in the rest of the application with fraudulent information like why the voter couldn't vote and then filing them with the Board of Elections. Campana turned down a deal that would have required him to plead guilty to a misdemeanor and serve 60 days of house arrest, said his attorney E. New York Kevin McGrath Anthony DiFiglio William McInerney Anthony Renna John Brown Clement Campana Gary Galuski Michael LoPorto Ed McDonough Kevin McGrath M 2009-09 Working Families Party Primary D Absentee/mail Troy City Councilman Kevin McGrath and Rensselaer County Working Families Party County Chairman Jim Welch testified before a special county grand jury investigating absentee-ballot fraud about allegations that voters' signatures were forged on absentee ballots and ballot applications for the September 2009 WFP primary. It's alleged that nine Democratic officials and party workers forged the ballot applications and ballots of voters, many of whom lived in city public housing. The inquiry resulted in the guilty plea of former City Clerk William McInerney and indictment of Councilman Michael LoPorto and County Democratic Elections Commissioner Edward McDonough. McInerney admitted forging a ballot and has agreed to cooperate with Special Prosecutor Trey Smith's investigation as part of a plea deal. LoPorto and McDonough were indicted by a grand jury in January 2011 on 116 counts of forgery and possessing forged documents. McDonough, LoPorto and McInerney are among nine Democrats identified as persons of interest in the investigation. McGrath also was identified but he has agreed to cooperate with the investigation.The other five are Council President Clement Campana, Councilmen Gary Galuski and John Brown, and party operatives Dan Brown, the councilman's brother, and Anthony DeFiglio, a former Troy Housing Authority clerk.
