In the spring of 2016, Massaquoi was registering new voters as an employee of New Virginia Majority, a local progressive advocacy group. According to the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Massaquoi fabricated applications and used fake names to fill out the registration forms. The fake applications were filed with the Alexandria Office of the General Registrar, who reported the issue to Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter. |New York||Shirley Anne Conners aka Shirley Anne Faragalli||F||Multiple||2016-10||Non-citizen voting||Registration fraud - non-citizen||1||20||Shirley Anne Conners, aka Shirley Anne Faragalli, a Canadian citizen living illegally in Cheektowaga, New York, was arrested in October 2016 for making a false claim to U.S. citizenship to vote after voting in more than 20 elections. Conners, who has been illegally in the United States since the early 1970s, voted in more than 20 federal, state and local elections since 1995, the last being the presidential primary in New York in April 2016. Conners faces a federal prison term of up to five years if convicted. |Florida||Gladys Coego||F||2016||2016-10||Absentee/Mail||Gladys Coego, a temporary worker for the county elections department, was tasked with opening envelopes sent by Miami-Dade County voters with their completed mail ballots. She was arrested after co-workers caught her illegally marking ballots. Cook, a long-time election judge, pleaded not guilty in Madison County Circuit Court to two counts of felony election fraud after admitting to submitting a mail ballot for her recently-deceased husband Vic Cook. Cook faces two Class 3 felony charges, one relating to sending in a false ballot, and one for violation of the absentee ballot statute.
