Ward worked for election contractor Stillwater LLC, which was enlisted to obtain signatures on campaign petitions for Republican candidate Newt Gingrich in Virginia's 2012 presidential primary. A number of people who signed the petitions did not live at the addresses listed. Ward pleaded guilty in June 2013 to 36 similar charges filed by Augusta County.
