From a list of almost 200 voter fraud cases that occurred since June 2007, only one person was charged. North Carolina Contested Election: Leon Maynor vs. Laura Sampson 2015-11 Lumberton municipal Contested Election Vote buying The State Board of Elections ordered a new election for the Lumberton Precinct 7 City Council seat, due to voter “irregularities." possible fraud and “systematic” errors made by the Robeson County Board of Elections. The Precinct 7 race had been stalled by election protests filed by both the incumbent, Leon Maynor, and challenger, Laura Sampson. Following several recounts, including a full hand-to-eye recount, Maynor held a one-vote lead over Sampson. An investigator with the State Board of Elections testified that there is an ongoing investigation of vote-buying allegations against both Maynor and Sampson. The investigator, Matthew Martucci, a former New York Police Department detective, said that both candidates, local election officials and others have been interviewed about the allegations, which were made by multiple sources. All information collected during the investigation will be forwarded to the State Bureau of Investigation and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina. The state board questioned Steve Stone, the chairman of the Robeson County Board of elections, extensively about how the hand recount was conducted, and after reviewing the ambiguous ballots, decided there was no way they could determine the voters’ “intent” based on the ballots. Connecticut Sheila M. O'Malley F 2006-08 2006-11 Primary General Registration Fraud Ineligible district voting A complaint was brought against Sheila M. O'Malley with the State of Connecticut State Elections Enforcement Commission. O'Malley was accused of not being registered properly for two elections. The first case was because of a mistake in her address. In the second case, O'Malley had moved to a home within the same district but did not update her registration. Tennessee Brenda Woods (former city council member and candidate for mayor) F 2009 Municipal Voter intimidation/coercion Illegal assistance Witnesses at trial were granted immunity and testified that Woods took them to the polls at separate times to vote for her even though she knew they were felons. Convicted in 2010, but was granted a new trial and again convicted in 2014. Two years of community corrections.
