Texas Irene Rodriguez Chris De Leon F 2014-06 Mercedes municipal runoff Absentee/mail Illegal assistance 3 Irene Rodriguez, the wife of Mercedes City Commissioner and mayoral candidate Rudy Rodriguez, and Chris De Leon, the owner of the adult daycare that disabled senior Yolanda Gonzales attended, entered Gonzales' home, opened mail-in ballots for the June 2014 City Commission runoff, and instructed Gonzales how to complete her own ballot. The two women then instructed Gonzales to complete and sign the ballots of her mentally-impaired brother Rene Gonzales and her 88-year-old bedridden father Jose Gonzales, who weren’t home. It’s illegal to cast someone’s vote for them without their knowledge and to instruct someone how to vote as they are voting. It is also against the law to mark their ballot or take it to the mail for them without signing as a voter assistant. Describing the incident, Yolanda Gonzales — who, at 64, suffers from various disabilities — didn’t seem to understand that what she had done was wrong. She said she had just followed the instructions of the campaign workers, who told her she was allowed to mark votes for her father and brother. The complaints were referred to Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra. http://www.themonitor.com/news/local/mercedes-man-alleges-campaign-workers-took-...

Connecticut Janelle Rooks F Registration Fraud A complaint was made that Richard Murray, Neill Bovaird, Kelly Way, Nancy Pilon, Janelle Rooks, M. Samantha Geiger, Amy Bovaird, Peter Nygard, Shannon Nygard and Angela Harwood were registered and in some cases voted in a place where they did not reside. An Election Commission investigation found that the defendants had registered in good faith with the belief that they did reside in the district in which they registered. The Commission found that had the Registrar's office been more thorough and done their due diligence, it would have found that the addresses provided were not within the required district and the voter registrations/voting would not have occurred.
