In 2010, a controversy sparked in the small Hidalgo County town when nearly three dozen voters were flagged by the city, which had chosen to run its own election. They also found instances of improper IDs used to prove residency and at least eight instances of improper one-stop, absentee voting. Votes for Allen Dial, who was seeking his fifth term, and challenger Theresa Locklear tied at 299, according to the November results. It is not clear if any criminal charges will be filed.
