|Florida||Jeffrey Garcia||M||2012-08||Democratic primary||D||Absentee/Mail||Jeffrey Garcia pleaded* guilty to one felony charge and three misdemeanor charges after admitting he illegally requested hundreds of absentee ballots while he was running the 2012 primary campaign of Democrat Rep. Joe Garcia. Garcia was involved in a sophisticated scheme to manipulate primary elections by submitting hundreds of fraudulent absentee-ballot requests. He also worked on the campaign of Democrat Patrick Murphy of Jupiter, who unseated Republican congressman Allen West. A Herald investigation found that hundreds of 2,552 fraudulent requests for the August 14 primaries originated from Internet Protocol addresses in Miami. The targeted voters in the online scheme were selected because they were registered but infrequent voters. Filling out the request form and sending the ballots directly to them or manipulating their ballots in another capacity are both felonies and were the apparent goals of the plot.||*Plea Deal: 90 days in jail, 18months probation including 90 days of house arrest||http://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/Congressman-Joe-Garcia-Responds-to-Chief-of-S...||http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/10/22/fla-congressman-ex-chief-staff-jailed...|
