"Steady Watchmen": June Engagement Kit
Week 1
Hi, Friend!
It’s time to step into our first month of our summer campaign, Steady Watchmen! Grab a journal or a planner, take some notes, and stick to your goals. Writing them down will hold you accountable and set you up for success!
Let’s get into what to expect for this month before we head into week 1:
Week 1: Review your local election office’s standards protocols and methods
Week 2: Build a local “Watch Team”
Week 3: Submit public comments on upcoming legislation
Week 4: Host your own “Liberty Lunch”!
Each week, we will set goals on what to do and how to do it. By breaking your mission down into obtainable, weekly goals, you will be a Steady Watchman in no time!
Here’s how to complete week 1 - Review your local election office’s standards protocols and methods:
- Visit or call your county election office: Visit True the Vote’s Info by State page —> Click on your state —> Visit the “Election Info” tab —> Click on “Call Your County”*
- Ask how they maintain voter rolls, handle challenges, and conduct post-election audits: Be friendly and patient! County officials have a lot on their plates, but they are generally happy to engage and answer any questions you have.
- Request public records on 2024 election procedures to review: If you feel like you require more information or you were unable to speak with someone, you can always send a public records request.

Knowing your locality’s methods is crucial in understanding how to identify strengths and/or any “holes” in the process. When you have an understanding of the “in’s and out’s”, you are better equipped to have conversations with your local officials to advocate for common-sense solutions, volunteer at the polls, and train others in your community!
You’ve. Got. This. Take it one step at a time, and see how quickly you learn and how easy it is to expand your efforts. By the end of the summer, you will be in a position to lead your own team of Steady Watchmen!
